DTI Business Registration - PBR

Business How-To: DTI Business Registration

As I noted previously, I am taking our bbq business seriously. To protect our business, I have to take small steps to make things happen. Those include having a real business name, and also try to protect that name via a DTI Business Registration. Those are not all of the steps, but eventually I must make a move to start. Our ihaw-ihaw stand is doing well. Protecting our business is my priority here, and with the stiff competition, I’d say rightfully so.

As we’ve already come up with a name for our business, Babayu Grilled Skewers, I have to ensure that once we post them as our name, no other business would try to copy our name, at least within the city. Furthermore, it would be a best move to let everybody know that the name is legal, with papers, so no one would contest it. The only course of action is to register the business name under me, and legally thru DTI.

Barbecue Business Idea – Thinking Of A Business Name

Another thing that’s often taken for granted by Filipino Micro Entrepreneurs is that no matter how small your business is, it should have a business name. It serves 2 main things:

  1. Having A Name Means You Mean Business – People get the impression that if you do not have a name, means you are not totally serious about your business. They might like your products, but could just forget about you tomorrow. You do not have a presence, and thus your total impact is lost.
  2. Exposure – This is a no brainer. If you are serious in your business, wouldn’t you like people to say your business name? Think about it, people would ask “where did you buy that?” and another will just respond “dun kay ate / kuya… yung ano…” Sounds pretty? You get the point.

It is of course better if someone would know your name right away along with the products you sold. Branding is important, and having a particular name would make your business stand out and be spoken about. It should always be a part of your business idea, and best addressed as soon as possible.

The Name Is A Part of Our Business Idea

In our case, we have planned all along that we need a name for our bbq business. I would like the business to be known one day and have customers speaking about it. I also want the business to be acknowledged legally one day, register it to the government and operate legally. This would also serve as a defense against those who would possibly want to rid of us. If you are a legal business, you could be almost untouchable versus other micro competitors. Regardless of how connections do they have, you could present that you are legal in every way possible, unlike them that just spurted out of the blue.

Eating BBQ With The Special Barbecue Sauce!

Unique Barbecue Sauce: Making Our Grill Special

This is definitely no secret: In order for a business to succeed, it must have its own identity. A business must have a defining product that they can call their own, and their reputation will build around that. It’s something that businesses should know, but others do not consider it as a factor. In our business, it’s the barbecue sauce, and I take pride in adding that up to our ihaw-ihaw.

Ever wonder why Jollibee is more famous than McDonalds in the Philippines? Kids love their burgers and fried chicken. Jollibee’s burgers have a different taste to it when you take a bite, and their chicken definitely has crunchier skin. It’s their signature creation, the same as KFC’s 11 herbs and spices.

BBQ Business Growth: A New Grill

What my in-laws did, leaving us after all the plans we’ve made, left us in shambles. But, we have to move on, press forward and still find a way to work things out. We cannot stop our BBQ business now, as soon as we just re-opened.

I previously talked about providing a separate capital for my in-laws, a separate business that would help all of us in the long run. Since they left, this saved up money will have no other place to go. A blessing in disguise, we have been discussing for days that we should have a new grill for the business. I wanted to have a new grill to make the business more presentable, not to mention one that would be able to handle multiple skewers at the same time. We now have some money to spare, so instead of just keeping it, we decided to invest some of it more on the BBQ business.

Small Business Plan: Troubles Ahoy!

Our small business plan hit a snag, a terrible snag.

We’ve done everything we could do to fully launch a proper, small scale business. We researched hard and well for these plans. I already compromised a good chunk of my daily budget just to finance our business. Above and beyond too, as I spent extra just to have an extra hand in getting the business running smoothly. Apparently, that seems to be not enough.

The In-Laws Wanted To Leave

My brother-in-law’s sibling somewhere in Batangas, asked him to visit. My in-laws were initially concerned about their debt in Bohol, in which his sibling called in and said would like him to work in Batangas to pay off.
